On Sunday, thousands of spectators will marvel at the realized projects of the Renovation Day in all provinces just like last year. The renovation market continues to grow. This growth is naturally at the expense of new construction, a sector that is struggling with a lack of affordable building plots.
Almost half of the 250 architects surveyed for the survey indicate that renovations take longer than, say, five years ago. Builders are constantly raising the bar. They want the same comfort as in new-build homes and that is certainly possible today. In addition, there are also legal obligations in the field of energy. The renovations are therefore becoming more and more in-depth and are progressing even more than before in different phases. A prior master plan will, therefore, become an absolute condition for being able to meet all those expectations and requirements.
The renovations not only take longer, but the builders also wait longer to implement them. More than half (54%) of them occupy the building for at least a few years before starting the renovations. In this way, the owners have the opportunity to rebuild a financial buffer. For the same reason, renovations are increasingly happening in phases.
More recent homes
Not only old farmhouses and terraced houses in the city are sought after renovations, but also more and more homes from the 60s and 70s are being repaired. The energy supplies in these homes must be handled in particular.
In 2019, 40 percent more people applied for a renovation premium compared to a year earlier. This is because the renovation premium was abolished at the end of last year. But what premiums can you get today if you renovate your house?
